Recruitment and retention continues to be a problem, and the tower has become increasingly dependant upon visitors to keep the practices going. Sunday Service ringing has sometimes had to be cancelled because too few ringers can attend, and on occasions we have only been able to ring five bells. Without additional ringers there is a risk that ringing at Betchworth will cease.
The band has learned (relearned in many cases) Kent treble bob for the sake of variety, and two learners can treble bob which is a useful stepping stone to greater things. The tower will take part in Heritage Open Days in 2010 as part of the recruiting drive this year, so I hope to make a more optimistic report in twelve months time.
